Shutters on the Banks is a charming oceanfront hotel located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. My wife Mercy and I had wonderful experiences during our recent getaway to Kitty Hawk from May 29 to June 1, 2024. Anyway, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the hotel itself was cozy and welcoming, and their breakfast choices were numerous and delicious. The direct beach access and proximity to restaurants and attractions in the Outer Banks area added to the appeal. What can I say…my wife and I had a ton of fun flying our FIREBIRD KITE up high in the sky in the gentle, steady and smooth onshore breezes behind the hotel for a minimum of one hour a day, and was a ton of fun. In summary, my wife and I were so impressed with the hotel that we definitely plan to make it an annual family tradition to stay at Shutters on the Banks whenever we come to Kitty Hawk for our getaways. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Outer Banks region of North Carolina for a relaxing and enjoyable beach vacation.

There was no breakfast...when I booked, it listed that they had a gym and breakfast in the mornings. The hotel didn't have either of those things.

We loved our stay at the Wright Stuff. There's so much to do; the beach, but also the Wright Memorial, the Teaching Gardens, Nags Head Wood Preserve, the wild horses, Manteo and Wanchese all very close by. We paddle boarded in the Sound and took a dolphin tour that was worth every penny. Couldn't believe how many dolphins were playing by our boat. Good golf courses nearby too. But the condo was so fun to stay at and was well supplied with everything to make vacationing fun and relaxing at the same time.

The beach was great.
The beach was great. Several great restaurants nearby but nothing within realistic walking distance from our place. Our accommodations were great for the price. We made our trip fun and memorable so overall it was grand!!

The Outer Banks of NC is a must see.
The Outer Banks of NC is a must see. We did it all in the time frame we had and the weather that didn't always cooperate. The Sand Dunes at Jockey State Park, The Wright Brothers Memorial, Jeanette's Pier, Pea Island, The Graveyard Memorial, The Elizabethan Gardens, and the Wild Horses Tour in the Hummer was all so exciting and amazing!! The restaurants we are at were just ok or not ok.....Sam Omies and The Crab House.

First time in OBX, loved it.
First time in OBX, loved it. We stayed here since it was pretty central to go both directions up and down the coast easily. There is plenty to do, weather pending. We came in shoulder season so it was quiet and a little chilly. I hear it gets incredibly busy in the summer. Beautiful part of the coast and will come again.

This hotel is beach front and although it was foggy and rainy, we could still see the ocean.
We liked the fact that there as a little cafe run by Dave who made us up a shrimp and salad supper so we didn’t have to navigate in the fog!
Most of all, the staff at the hotel are great and super helpful. We had a problem with payment which has been sorted out by the Manager, Lynnsey.

Our room was big enough for two adults and 1 kid (6 years). Beach is just 1m walk - basically across the hotel area, and the swimming pool was open the whole day (only indoor as it was too cold for outdoor - no problem with that). Breakfast was ok - nothing superb, but good and fresh. Unlike other hotels - they still served breakfast - I had a bad experience already twice by being charged for breakfast and then "due to covid" breakfast was closed without any refund - here they still serve breakfast :-)
Right on the beach! You can't get better than that. Free coffee available at standard ours. That's always a plus. The pet friendly rooms are all on the 1st floor. That was a definite plus! The side exits were all set up for room card re-entry. Good security measure. Staff was very friendly and professional. A restaurant/bar was on site also.
The location was perfect. It was so nice to have access directly to the beach and be able to go back to the room for lunch or breaks. We brought our little dog Annie, with us and both the beach and hotel was very pet friendly. Btw we found out she was a crab hunter when we hit the beach late night lol, which is a must do if you visit.
This hotel was centrally located and made it easy to get to shopping, food, any of the beaches, and attractions. It was easy to find and the price was excellent. I would recommend going in the off season. It was also quiet and right on the beach. I walked right out the door onto the beach and loved it.
My husband has mobility issues, so being right on the beach was a big plus. I have never stayed where I literally walked out the room and was on the beach. The renovations to the room were nicely done. The bathroom is a little tight, but the walk-in shower is a plus.
It was a older style motel but was clean and staff was very nice great location nice pool on the beach had a great time was my family’s 1st time going to the outer banks we will definitely be going back
The location being directly on the beach is the best part of this hotel. The staff was very friendly. It’s close to plenty of things to do and places to eat. The room was clean.
I like that they had a pool and the rooms were nice enough. The staff were also friendly and the locations pretty good in Kill Devil Hills on the border with Nags Head.
